Testing 'grandma's' recipes

Since the last post, i've bought a couple of cookbooks and added a few more into my must-buy list, and have somehow officially become a cookbook enthusiast.

i actually have a whole row of cookbooks, albeit in three languages. ;-)

Strangely enough, despite the growing number of cookery titles, i haven't been doing much serious cooking, although hubby has. In fact, his current preoccupation is achieving the perfect roll cake. The one i like is a green tea flavour with caramel cream, yum ...

But then i digress.

Had my in-laws over for dinner so i tried some of the recipes out. But then i discovered that one of my cookbooks had defective binding!!!

'My Great Grandma Never Left Our Kitchen', written by Shirley Zecha. Such a pretty book with nice, nice recipes (a mixture of Indonesian-Dutch, Chinese and Nyonya cuisine) which looks like you can actually cook some of them. And, yes, i did. (at least the one i tried, Lapis Ingris)

And it was really de-lish.

i cannot get over the fact that a book priced at RM90 over can just fall apart at the seams. If it was one of the cheaper bilingual books, i'll just stick'em back. Eventhough it was originally published in 2004, hence if it was the first printing, it would be 5 years old, i've only owned it for less than a year.

i'm sad. Do you think i should write to the publisher? :-(

Final word on this - nice book, worth buying provided you don't mind your book falling to pieces ... so i mind, okay only a bit ...but the story behind its making, is simply touching.
